BURNLEY have held Premiership
visitors Middlesbrough to a draw at Turf Moor.
James Morrison pulled the Teesiders back level early in the second
half, in what was the only real chance of note.
The half-time substitute was played in by Fabio Rochemback, before
rounding Brian Jensen and firing home.
Andy Gray's goal right on half-time had given Burnley the lead
against their Premiership opponents.
His tap-in from under the crossbar following a neat corner routine
was just reward for the Clarets after an impressive first half.
Much of the first half hasbeen spent in Middlesbrough's defensive
third of the pitch, with Wade Elliott looking good on the right.
Robbie Blake was missing from the 17 with a thigh strain, while
Besart Berisha and Stephen Jordan began the game on the bench.
Gabor Kiraly did make his Turf Moor debut however, with Ade Akinbiyi
and Kyle Lafferty starting in attack.
It was the visitors who made the first real chance of the game
on 12 minutes, with Fabio Rochemback playing in Jeremie Aliadiere,
only for his low cross to go beyond a sliding Yakubu.
The Clarets suffered an early setback, with Kyle Lafferty replaced
by Andy Gray after what looked like a recurrence of the knee injury
picked up at Wrexham.
Joey Gudjonsson came close on a number of occasions, aiming to
repeat his goalscoring exploits at the Racecourse Ground.
At the other end, Kiraly has had to be on his guard to deny the
visitors, but it was Gray who gave Burnley the lead on the half-time
whistle.
Elliott's corner was met by Steven Caldwell, and after he had laid
the ball back to Gudjonsson, his cross was met by Duff's whose header
was tapped in by Gray. |
