BURNLEY come away from Valley
Parade with a hard-earned draw.
Ade Akinbiyi's goal midway through the first half proved not enough
to earn victory, as the Clarets secured their third 1-1 draw in four
pre-season games.
Burnley were without former Bantam Robbie Blake and fellow striker
Kyle Lafferty, both suffering with injuries.
That meannt Akinbiyi partnered Andy Gray in attack, while Stephen
Jordan started his first game for the club at left back.
Jordan's inclusion saw Jon Harley operating on the left wing, with
Alan Mahon on the right, and a central midfield partnership of John
Spicer and Chris McCann.
After a slow start, it was the home side who had the first real
shot in anger, when Omar Daley's scuffed effort went straight at
Brian Jensen.
Burnley survived another scare when with Jensen made an excellent
save to deny Kyle Nix after he was played in by Barry Conlon.
But within minutes, Steven Caldwell's ball out to Michael Duff
saw the former Cheltenham man play in Akinbiyi, who headed past
Donovan Ricketts.
Afterwards, Daley saw a right foot shot from outside the box flash
wide of Jensen's post.
But on the stroke of half-time, Daley's crossfield ball picked
out the lively Joe Colbeck on the right, whose first time ball across
was guided into the net by the onrushing Nix.
The goal put a more deserved look on the things, but the seond
period was to be devoid of much action.
A plethora of substitutions dominated the remainder of the game,
with Burnley using all eight of their replacements.
One of those, Besart Berisha, did have a late chance to nick the
win, but his overhead kick went wide. |
