GOALS in either half from
Andy Gray and Ade Akinbiyi seal a comfortable win at Turf Moor.
The pair made in seven in pre-season between them as Burnley secured
a first clean sheet in their final game before jetting out to Austria
on Sunday.
Robbie Blake missed his third straight pre-season game with a thigh
strain, but Kyle Lafferty came back into the starting line-up alongside
Andy Gray after his back problem.
Besart Berisha made his second start on the right, as did Stephen
Jordan at left back, as Jon Harley once again operating on the left
hand side of midfield.
Kyle Lafferty's fierce 25-yard strike was too hot for Loach to
handle, in what was the first real chance of the afternoon.
Leeds responded with Jermaine Beckford sending an overhead kick
straight at Kiraly, and Tresor Kandol dragging a shot wide when
through on goal.
But the Clarets had the lead when Gray sent a perfectly struck
penalty past Scott Loach after 15 minutes, after Matt Heath had
been adjudged to have handled in the area by the assistant referee.
At the time, it was nothing more than Burnley deserved, but after
the goal, Leeds came close to equalising on a number of occasions.
They came within an inch of levelling when Jermaine Beckford's
cross from the right wing took a nick off Stephen Jordan, before
deceiving Gabor Kiraly and coming back off the far post.
And within a minute, Alan Thompson curled a free kick from just
outside the area narrowly wide.
After the restart, Leeds threatened to grab an equaliser on a number
of occasions.
Twice Tresor Kandol had been through on goal, and twice, half-time
substitute Brian Jensen had denied him.
But Akinbiyi's third goal of pre-season doubled Burnley's lead
after he toe-poked in from close range from Steve Foster's low cross. |
