Born Akranes, Iceland; began his professional career aged 17 in the Icelandic Premier Division with IA Akranes and has played for teams in Holland, Belgium and Spain; made his international debut for Iceland in 2001 and scored for the national in a 1-1 friendly game, against Norway; married to Maria and has three sons called Izak, Joe and Ehman; his father, Gudjon Thordarson, has managed Stoke City, Notts County, Barnsley and the Icelandic national team; his two brothers, Toddi and Bjarni, also play professional football.
